UNDERCOMMON TOKYO
A World Beneath Every City.
under-common.tokyoCONCEPT
Everything beneath Tokyo is connected.
Subways, underground shopping streets, abandoned stations, subterranean rivers, forgotten passages. Beyond them lies another Tokyo, absent from every map.
Above ground, people are divided by profession, age, nationality, economic circumstances, and the communities they belong to. Some share a city yet never cross paths.
But underground, those boundaries disappear.
UNDERCOMMON TOKYO is a game project set in an urban commons: a place where people who would never have met above ground gather, act freely, and create new cultures and communities.
Players explore unknown underground spaces, uncovering the city’s hidden histories and stories. Together with the people they meet, they restore places and build another city.
Explore — Uncover — Inhabit.
To explore, to discover, and to take part in the city.
UNDERCOMMON TOKYO treats the city as more than a backdrop: a world that keeps changing through people’s actions and relationships.
The first setting is Tokyo.
In the future, the project will expand to cities around the world, including New York and London.
If every boundary in the city disappeared underground, what kind of society would we build?
UNDERCOMMON TOKYO is an urban exploration game that investigates that possibility.
